Main Task:Double Page Spread Final

Main Task:Contents Page Final

Main Task:Front Cover Final

Main Task:Ummainipulated Photos

This image will be my main front cover. I have chosen this photo because the artist is given strong direct eye contact to the audience. It is also clear that it is a music magazine, the reason for this is because he is being protrayed as a singer/rapper due to the fact that he has a microphone(prop that is related to music) in his hand. The background also connects with the desgin printed on the codtume. The shadow also give the image a good effect.

This second photo will be the main image of my double page spread ,the reason for this is because it was taken from a different angle to the image of the front cover and the subject is not giving direct eye contact to the camera. I also choose to use this image because it background is different and it is more of a medium close up rather than a close up.

This photo will go on my contents page along with the other 2 below. The background is different from the background of the double page spread ,but is similar to the backgrond of the front cover image so the atmosphere looks different ,There is also a different prop (headphones)that has been used.

(Lara) This picture was going to go on my contents page but i decided to change the picture, the reason for this was because the green jumper she is wearing would of completely changed the colours which i used in my current colour scheme ,which could of therefore changed the RnB,Grime feel to my magazine. Another reason why i didn't use this image is because the image seems a little too dark;around her chest area there is too much of a shadow.

Main Task:Case Study of a Publishing House

IPC Media

The company offers a section of magazine, it publishes magazines such as Nuts, Cycling, Women’s Own, Pick Me Up,Tv Easy and many more these magazine are more about whats on tv and everyday life.Whereas my modern music magazine will bring somthing new to the wide range of magazines they already publish.

There target audience varies because of there magazines selection. Mass market women, upmarket men/women and young men.By them publishing my magazine it will widen their target audience to teenagers that love and enjoy RnB.

IPC doesn’t have any other business interest. There main focus is advertising other peoples magazines.

Main Task:Double Page Spread Conventions Diagram

Main Task:Double Page Spread Textual Analysis

Colour Scheme: This magazine double page spread has quite a simple colour scheme; it has a clear white background giving it a classy pure look to it. There is very little colour and the colours which are being used are bright summery colours such as green, blue, orange etc. They alsp bring out the colours from T.I’s shirt.

Image: On the left hand side of the double page spread is an image of T.I (a famous singer/rapper) the picture is a mid shot .The image does not carry to the right hand side of the page. There is no text placed over the top of the image.

Strap-line: There is not much of a strap line on the double page spread but there is a green circle which explains his success.

Columns: It is clear that there are only two columns in the double page spread, but the first paragraph has been written out normally with no columns.

Subject Name: in this case the subject name is T.I because the double page spread is about him .His name has been put in the title of the article so it stands out nicely.

By-Line: Under the Headline in a smaller font the name of the photographer is credited for the image and the name of the journalist is also written as a way of identifying what it is that they have done.

Headline: The headline is a basic font but a large plain but stylish font that will attract an audience of all ages to read, but especially music lovers. The headline is a pun because it has been played around with. The headline has been placed at the top/middle of the page.

Stand-first: The stand first is a short paragraph introduction that summaries and introduces the article. The font is bigger in size than the main text .There are little blue squares that identify were a new point is being made.

Mise En Scene

NVC: His non-verbal communication Seems relaxed. His arms are spread out this may connote that he is a bird because birds spread there wings out in order to fly and also his head is tilted to the side .His facial expression demonstrates that he is relaxed and comfortable ,T.I is not smiling but he has a grin on his face.

Costume: The Costume in this double page spread appears to be everyday wear. The checked shirt brings the other colours together. The look that the magazine wants is a smart but casual look and to do this they made him wear a white t-shirt(casual) checked shirt(smart) and some shorts(causal).

Lighting: The lighting is high key lighting because it is bright (white). The background is white and because there is no background.

Setting: The setting is most likely to be in a studio because there is no background.

Anchorage: The type of font which has been used is sans serif because there are no flicks and curls in the font, so it may suggest that the font is more modern than serif fonts which are more old fashioned.

Denotation: This magazine cover is for Vibe magazine. It

Masthead:

Character: The character that is on the front cover of the magazine is Janet Jackson a well known singer that is a member of the Jacksons family. This is an R n B type of magazine and she fits the genre of music well.

Composition: Her non-verbal communication e.g. body language and facial expression is suductive. Her pose suggests that she is having fun. Her clothing is basic.

Costume: Her clothing is simple .she is wearing a white vest top, some fish net tights and a pair of jeans. This gives her a causal look .The accessories such as brackets and ring, work well with the camera because they are all metalic objects.

NVC: Janet Jackson’s non-verbal communication in this image comes across a little bit seductive because of the way she is posing .Her mouth is opened so her facial expressions seems surprised but thrilled at the same time this may connote how much she is enjoying life and being successful. Her lipstick is matching the colour of the font (peach). She is looking directly at the camera so it is an eye level shot but a medium shot as well. Janet is a well known singer and she is feisty so as an audience we get this from the way she is standing.

Lighting: The lighting of the image is high key lighting; it is bright so it implies that it was taken in the morning.

Setting: There is not much of a setting which suggests that the photograph was taken in a studio. The background is a white/creamy colour that brings out text and main head lines.

Props: There is only one prop in this image which is the camera. It has been used to cover one of her eyes. The camera may cannote an eye because the main cover line is 'Janet Jackson likes to watch' ,So in this case it may be that she is using the camera to represent her her eyes.

Cover-lines: The main cover line is 'Janet Jackson likes to watch'.This is telling us the reders a little bot about what we are going to be reading in the magazine.

Target Audience: The target audience for this magazine(Vibe) is most likely to be both males and females which are interested in RNB and Hip-Hop.They would normally be around the ages of 15-25.They should be able to understand and have some knowlegde on this type of music. Preliminary Tasks:Front Cover Textual Analysis

In the image above we can see a man which is holding uni books in his hand. The background is black around the edges but gets lighter around the mans face and shoulders. The shot is a medium shot because in the picture only half of his body(waist upwards) is being showed. He appears to be standing up.The College masthead is behind the man , on both his right and left there some cover lines in both yellow and white. The bar code is further down the magazine towards the bottom left, the price of the magazine has also been written in small white print under the bar code. Further up the magazine cover n the right hand side there is a pink splat that stands out quite a lot because of its bright colour.

The hidden meaning behind this image is 'education is the key and it is never too late '.The man in the image is Jeffrey Assassin Campbell a dancehall artist which seems to be advertising education. He may be trying to say education in university can be fun but it comes with hard work.

The font appears to be a little modern ,this could mean that the magazine hasn't been around for a long time. The bright and bold yellow font is the main colour that stands out on the page. There are about three different styles of the same font in different sizes.

College's masthead is quite large plain and bold which allows the yellow bounce of the black/grey background. It has no outline or shadow. The font is most highly bold Arial. The name of the magazine 'COLLEGE' has been written in capital block.'COLLEGE' is the topic beause the magazine is about college/university lifestyle.

The magazine cover is of the dancehall singer Jeffrey Assassin Campbell. He is a star in the making.

Hes pose is an especially layed back one. Hes clothing and body language seems comfortable and comes across in an intellectual way.

'Dancehall's Bright Future:Jeffrey Assassin Campbell' is the name of the main cover line. It relates to the image well because the image is of Jeffrey and it is trying to say that he has a bright future in the dancehall artist genre The selection of different cover lines proposes that the the magazine has several aspects and doesn't only focus on one topic. The topics on the cover-lines are:

*The hot weather of 2008

*Campus

*Blackberry

*The joy of it being Friday

*Campus parties
Most magazines will have an element of the news and whats going on in the world. For example in this cover it related to the world of sports and how someone is trying to 'produce the world's fastest humans'.

Target Audience

Taking into account all the points i have made it is fair to say that the target audience for this magazine is university students both male and female between the ages of 18 and 24.They would most likely be living on campus or have an interest in higher education. They are also goin to be able to read.

The main prop in this image are the books. Its has been put there to signify the topic which is education and to also back up to name of the magazine 'COLLEGE'.

The lighting is high key lighting the reason for this is because the subject (the man) doesn't seem too dark or too light, it may suggest that it is in the late after-noon around 4pm.

Costume wise he has been dressed up in a manner which is smart but casual . He is wearing a white v-neck t-shirt,a smart black jacket, some jeans and a long silver chain. The costume has been made in make a connection with its target audience. The style of the costume is casual wear, which is how most university students would dress

NVC(Non-Verbal Communication

The mans non-verbal communication suggests that he is happy about learning and takes education seriously because he is smiling, his smile is not a full smile were all his teeth are showing .He's eyes are looking straight into the camera which may show confidence and a high self-esteem.

The setting is most likey to be in a studio ,the reason for this is because the background is dull and plain. It could be the wall of a corridor in the university.

Induction;Movie poster Textual Analysis

Non-Verbal Communication

The non verbal communication in this movie cover is shown by the ma.He is standing up straight which shows confidence ,he is also looking directly at the camera with his fist together it shows he is ready to fight and face all the challenges he may in counter in his adventures.

Props

Props wise he his holding a whip in his left hand. The whip is his signature prop. It shows that he may be facing some challenge people or things later on. It's more of a weapon which will protect him later on as he goes on his adventures.

Costume

His costume is just a pair of trousers and a shirt but the way it has been styled on him makes it look like more of a uniform. The shirt is brown in colour ,it has been unbuttoned to make it seem more like the character , it can also suggest that he is comfortable in himself and he knows his role and what is expected of him.

Lighting

There is both high and low key lighting in this movie cover.the background has got high key lighting, the reason for this is because there is an image of a firey reddish Orange skull,it may represent danger. This brings a little bit of colour to the movie cover. It blends in quite well with the dull low key light that is towards the bottom of the page.

Setting

The setting is in a cave the man is standing in front of some stairs which are most likely made out of stone.
